Ciao Monica

Sitting here In Salerno half way through our two month trip. We started with a few days in Montepulciano, the weather hampered our travels. I thought of you in Bologna, has the rain we’ve heard so much about been a problem for you?

Always enjoy your writings, breads are such a big part of the Italian cuisine

Thank you, Mark, for your exquisite thought. I start answering from the bread item. Agree with you; it is deeply rooted in Italian culture. This savory brioche is part of my history and, for that reason, has a special flavor. Regarding the rain, I'm sorry to hear that the weather was bad in Tuscany too. In Bologna: what a disaster! I live on the top floor, and the walls are currently wet and damp. We will have to paint again, but I am not complaining because some friends have lost everything. We, fortunately, live in the part of Bologna furthest from the larger canals. I hope there is sunshine in Salerno; enjoy your vacation! A hug, monica

I am so sorry for your friends losses. It is good there was no loss of life or injury to them. It is also good to hear your issues are isolated to dampness and repaint. Stone and plaster do like to soak up water. A good sealer could help. Take care Monica

So glad to hear you have been safe from the floods. Salerno weather has been wonderful. We enjoy our apartment in Torrione area. Earthy working class people so friendly. Much less tourists. Ciao

What a lovely article, Monica! Could you explain, in a future newsletter or blog post, what is the difference between krapfen and bombolone? I'd be happy to read your thoughts about that :)

Thank you Elisa! I'll do it, for sure. I grew up eating the bombolone. It was the mid-morning snack at the beach. I remember bombolone or pizza rossa. Such a memory! xo, monica
